The Biggest Party Ever

Hot Chip, c/o Mark Iantosca
5,000 people + 3 bars = a bad idea in my book, but the clusterfuck scene on Saturday night at Pier 3 proved to be a successful affair. Diesel threw themselves an over-the-top 30th birthday party, which spanned the globe starting in Tokyo, and rippled across time zones to culminate in Brooklyn. An inordinate concentration of chic, quasi-famous, and excitable people swamped the party and clamored for free booze as circus performers and musicians entertained all the night through.
It’s not every day that you get to see Chaka Khan mashing it up with Hot Chip, or acrobats segueing into a surprise performance by T.I., or Franz Ferdinand citing FDNY regulations and yelling at a massive crowd, or Juliette Lewis slurring her words — er, wait, we’ve spotted that one before. But without a doubt, the queen of ceremonies was M.I.A., who sauntered onto stage at 1 am with a huge rock on her finger and a blatant bun in the oven. Mazel, mazel to her! And grazie to Diesel for a great evening.
