I'd like to draw attention to Brooklyn dwellers Suran Song in Stag. Don't know when their latest record came out, but you should check them out. One of my favorite bands of this year.

Don't many of you feel ashamed that the albums in your collection owe their place largely to reviewers' labels instead of your own tastes? I'll be the first to admit: if there were an opportunity to listen to bands ignorant of their baggage or hype, without any expectation or pre-constructed subjectivity, my music collection would look somewhat different. The problem is not in the pretension of reviews, but in our fawning willingness to agree or disagree with them. Oh, and if you don't think Antics was the best album of the year, I'm sorry, you're deaf. And those of you who like any song Radiohead ever recorded probably never graduated from high school. Oh, and if you hate Justin Timberlake and love Annie, you might be schizophrenic, I'm sorry. Also, if you like the Beatles but hate Nickleback, you might be lying to yourself and your friends. When your parents tell you that the Fiery Furnaces sound like shit, they're right, they know more than you, they're older. So c'mon people, don't waste your time reading each best of list, gather them all, compile them on a spreadsheet, and average them out. The resulting list is what you must purchase and love. Even better, buy some expensive software and mix every song from every album together into a super song. Play this antehmic white noise over the course of your quotidian lives.
p.s. If you think I've said anything profound, or even worth contemplating for more than a nanosecond, you don't read enough. Run away now, children of the media, to the voice in other room telling you what to think.

wouldn't it be more ironic to, like, totally NOT do a Best-Of list? I mean, every indie dork with a blog has already littered the internet with enough pretension to fill a lifetime with these lists.

I got tired of Franz Ferdinand real fast. Their songs all sound similarly abrasive. Don't get me wrong, it's a hot new sound, but someone can do it better.
I saw FF at the Austin City Limits music festival this past fall. They were one of the better groups. They did lots of poses.

this is not the worst top 25 i have ever seen, it is not even bad, but franz ferdinand does not deserve to be in the top 10 much less number 4, with or without their good band name.
