Watch the trailer for a documentary about the gentrification of Williamsburg

Su Freidrich’s documentary about the gentrification of Williamsburg is called Gut Renovation starts playing at Film Forum on Wednesday, March 6. The film originally screened at Brooklyn Film Festival last year. From Film Forum:
With a winning combination of wit, anger, and political savvy, filmmaker Su Friedrich and co-writer Cathy Quinlan record how the neighborhood has changed from when they arrived in 1989 to the rich-hipster haven it has become. Friedrich casts a jaundiced eye on the sleek granite kitchen counters featured at the condo openings she attends; she paints graffiti on construction fences (“Artists Used To Live Here”) and comments wryly on her new neighbors (“What’s with all the fancy dogs?”).
Williamsburg gentrification always being a controverial subject, it’s pretty obvious which stance Su takes as she is heard heckling people on the street in the trailer. Should make for some interesting conversation. What do you think? Watch below:

Did she gentrify and change her first name?
I’m happy to see somebody making a film about it.

my fair Williamsburg died when Kokie’s was no more, rip, snort
Cry babies. This neighborhood died a decade ago…deal with it.
The neighbor died when all the Hispanic and black people moved into it…
Would love to see it now.
The cycle. Artist take over a factory that closed and depressed an area. Artist put in some work, and then the business people come over with their families and drink expensive coffee. Then they move.
They took over a abandoned building. No one was displaced or priced out until this market exploded. I feel for the renters, like myself, who are having to move every few years to afford my rent because of this explosion.
But am I part of it. Yes… Now what?
