Whole Foods CEO Opposes So-Called ObamaCare

And we thought he was a liberal. Looks like we’ll be skipping our trip to Whole Foods tonight.

the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction — toward less government control

  1. It is usually expected that those who run corporations will have a conservative stance. They know very well the value of money and the risk of debt, but often they forget that so many others do not have their fiscal resources or ability to look after themselves.
Their mindset is that of the highly competitive with a winner take all, survival of the fittest view.
As far as his comment regarding reducing government control, it is just amazing the amount of distrust people have for their governments. They are quite willing to have the government promote trade deals that generally directly affect a small percentage of the population. But, have the government be involved in people’s well being, who that is an inappropriate place for the government to be involved. Its a rather distorted view in my mind.

He’s right and frankly whoever thinks that my Family should have to pay for your family should come over and talk to me about it in person. We’ll settle that right quick.

  3. Jeff says:

you thought he was a liberal? does anyone read the paper? john mackey’s conservative credentials are almost as good as ron paul’s.

  4. Miles says:

They sell organic fruit, their CEO must be a liberal
Your parents should ask for a refund from whatever private liberal arts college they undoubtedly sent you to

Interesting and relevant article in Salon.com about the “Winner Take All, Me-First Screw-Everybody-Else” crowd:

Who thought he was a liberal?
Why don’t you skip your trip to Whole Foods forever and join a CO-OP?

  7. bc says:

…and why would anyone bring up Ron Paul as an example of a typical conservative?

  8. Jeff says:

    @bc:
If you’re referring to my comment, I was in no way using Ron Paul as an example of a ‘typical’ conservative — but neither is John Mackey. They’re both libertarians, essentially.

  9. Gary Takata says:

For those of you who worship Obama, even as he continues to lie to America and the world, take 1 hour to educate yourselves. Take 1 hour to read Obama’s bill and to research Chicago politics (where Obama was groomed). Maybe you can then start to understand why there are American’s like John Mackey who propose common sense alternatives to government’s version of “healthcare”.‚Ä¢
    Content of Obama’s Bill:

    • Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
    • Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
